Serving Ourselves Career Center

The Serving Ourselves Career Center assists people in defining and completing their career and educational goals.

An intensive sixteen-week program prepares participants for employment and educational opportunities in the community. Occupational counseling and a supervised job search are an integral part of the program, as is teaching valuable skills like resume and cover letter writing, interviewing skills, online job searching and applying, and problem solving/conflict resolution in the workplace. For those who’d also like to obtain their GED and/or further their education, the Center also assists people with applications for financial aid and college entrance, as well as referrals to community GED prep programs, adult education programs, and colleges and universities throughout the Boston area.

A quiet place to read and browse through the lending library’s books and periodicals or to work on self-tutorial computer programs is also available to anyone at the shelters.

The Center serves over 350 homeless individuals annually and graduates go on gainful employment in the community and/or obtain their GED, as well as Associates, Bachelors and Masters degrees at local colleges and universities.

The Career Center matches volunteer tutors with any learner who wants one. If you would like to volunteer, please contact Mariann Bucina at (617) 942-8671 or via email at mariannbucina@fobh.org.
