Project Lighthouse Adult Education &
Employment Resource Center
Project Lighthouse Adult Education Program provides education support to homeless adults and assists them in defining and completing their educational goals. Classes and one-on-one tutoring are provided in reading, writing, math, GED and pre-GED, English as a Second Language and computer literacy. The program also provides student assessment, advising, and application assistance for financial aid and college entrance, as well as referrals to community adult education programs and colleges throughout the Boston area.
The Employment Resource Center provides job-readiness training for individuals in our Serving Ourselves Job Training Program and Work Experience Program through an intensive sixteen-week program to best prepare participants for employment opportunities in the community. Some examples of skills taught are: resume and cover letter writing, interviewing skills, online job searching and applying, and problem solving/conflict resolution in the workplace. Occupational counseling and a supervised job search are also part of the program
A quiet place to read and browse through the lending library's books and periodicals or to work on self-tutorial computer programs is also available to anyone at our shelters.
Project Lighthouse serves over 350 homeless individuals annually and graduates go on to receive their GED, as well as Associates, Bachelors and Masters degrees at local colleges and universities.
Project Lighthouse matches volunteer tutors with any student who wants one. If you would like to volunteer, please contact Marianna Bucina at (617) 534-6148 or via email at mariannbucina@fobh.org.
